Five days to go for Christmas - It was too good to be true. Models are a little more back to reality again and reality is green for most. Confidence is now increasing to moderate and reasonable (60%) that only very high ground (above 700m/2100ft asl) in Scotland will see some snow. Chances for snow in England, Wales and Ireland dropped back to Tuesday's level of 0% to 10% (over hills).
The current situation (confidence moderate to reasonable: 50 to 60%)
Scotland: Snowing only on higher ground above 2100 ft on Sunday and Monday and the early hours of Christmas Eve. Otherwise mostly dry and maybe some sleety showers or snowy rain overnight. England and Wales: No snow. Green and mild for most. However, if there is any chance left then for the east. Depending on where air-mass boundary between mild southwesterly air and cold northeasterly air across Europe will eventually come to a rest. Northern Ireland: No snow. Mild.
Chances for snow are back to normal again. After an interesting development yesterday it now looks as green as statistically expected.
However, stay tuned for tomorrows edition of WeatherOnline's white Christmas countdown.
